Sculpture
Linda grew up in a small town in Michigan but attended a small college in Iowa where she took art classes. She received a minor in art but taught elementary school for over 30 years in the public schools system in Des Moines. She created paintings and fiber art for pleasure until four years ago when she began making sculptures from clay and is now a full time clay sculptor.
Description of work
Linda creates narrative sculptures from clay capturing people in ordinary life situations. Each piece begins with an idea or image from Linda’s past or present. She is influence by conversations she’s heard or perhaps the way someone expresses themselves with an expression or body position. Each original piece is coilbuilt and fired multiple times receiving layers of underglazes, oxides and glazes.
